Last Call For The Strokes
Posted By: Mike Spence

NME recently went out on a very long limb and named The Stroke’s Is This It album of the decade. Proclamations like that are always questionable, but the fact that Stroke’s front man, Julian Casablancas, was drunk for a good chunk of that decade makes the title even more suspect. Or maybe it makes the win more legitimate?

Casablancas, in an interview with CNN, talks about his new solo project and the eventual next stage of The Strokes. He also talks about his troubles with binge drinking, saying “I was hung over for two years. If I didn't drink, I didn't do anything. It was bad." Next time Julian should give coffee a shot.

Any Strokes fans out there who are worried that Casablancas’ solo career will doom their favorite band can calm down because the singer seems to still believe in his first love, saying “The Strokes can play anything. They could play "Thriller," and it would just sound like "Thriller" as played by the Strokes.”

That’s not quite the compliment Casablancas thinks it is. For example, I can say that the Jonas Brothers could play “Thriller,” and it would just sound like “Thriller” as played by the Jonas Brothers, but thats the exact opposite of a good thing.

I haven't been able to sleep at all lately! I think I'm just stressed- exams start next week, and I just realised how much I actually have to study!- so I've been trying to calm myself down before I go to bed, just relax and think of something...not school-related...but it's not working. I'm online lurking Livejournal a lot now this time of night. :P

I'm really amazed at how fast this semester has gone! It honestly feels like we just moved in last week. I've really gotten used to everything around here (how you have to turn our shower faucet to 'cold' to get hot water; the grumbly noises our fridge is definitely not supposed to be making; the loud and mysterious beer-drinking, beer-pong playing people who live above us...) and, though I've loved being home, both times I've gone back to Cobourg I've felt a little out of place.

Fairly large pictures from the past few months... )

I hope you're all doing well. I'm jealous of anyone who has snow, by the way! It's been pouring rain here for a good part of the day...but no snow. It's December, and I live in Canada. Aren't we supposed to be riding polar bears to the office (and by 'office', I mean 'igloo')!? Come on.

The cover of The Bachelor made Pitchfork's list of worst album covers for 2009.

The second-strangest walk of shame in Patrick Wolf's life.

Thoughts?

Hey LJers,

I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;)

Thanks,

So initially I didn't really have much interest in seeing Iron Man 2. I didn't think the first one was that great, honestly-- it just had an overall weak plot, in my opinion, and wasn't the most believable thing even more a superhero movie.

However, I then saw this production still and have done a 180.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON? WITH RED HAIR? IN A SEXY BLACK DRESS? I AM SO. THERE.

Oh, heterosexuality. Where have you gone? Has Wesleyan scared you away? I guess that happens.

The rest of the production skills do give me some pause, though. Mickey Rourke? And... something to do about boxing? Er.

But I really want more superhero movies, kk. I know some people have claimed that rebooting superhero genres is becoming a bit of a cliche but personally, I can't get enough. ...Except for the Hulk movies. Have not seen those. Because the Hulk sucks.
