Last Call For The Strokes
Posted By: Mike Spence
NME recently went out on a very long limb and named The Stroke’s Is This It album of the decade. Proclamations like that are always questionable, but the fact that Stroke’s front man, Julian Casablancas, was drunk for a good chunk of that decade makes the title even more suspect. Or maybe it makes the win more legitimate?
Casablancas, in an interview with CNN, talks about his new solo project and the eventual next stage of The Strokes. He also talks about his troubles with binge drinking, saying “I was hung over for two years. If I didn't drink, I didn't do anything. It was bad." Next time Julian should give coffee a shot.
Any Strokes fans out there who are worried that Casablancas’ solo career will doom their favorite band can calm down because the singer seems to still believe in his first love, saying “The Strokes can play anything. They could play "Thriller," and it would just sound like "Thriller" as played by the Strokes.”
That’s not quite the compliment Casablancas thinks it is. For example, I can say that the Jonas Brothers could play “Thriller,” and it would just sound like “Thriller” as played by the Jonas Brothers, but thats the exact opposite of a good thing.
